BHSFP 0 – Academy 55
Saturday’s fixture brought our 2009 to a close – quite a year. However, there was some serious business to get through before it was “turkey n mince pie time…..”
We had stuttered a little of late – winning but not excelling, and this was the key message for the troops before kick off – a clinical approach was the minimum today. We are used to the cold and wind at the ‘Fort, but this was something else – several brass monkeys were seen writhing in pain behind the fence!!!!
We started well enough without really nailing it from the start, and BHS tackled manfully. Our use of the ball was good in parts if a little wasteful, until on 13mins, when we finally got to grips, driving BHS back into their 22, and, after a series of drives, and offloads between backs and forwards, WheelsEdens struck hard and almost made it, but, brain in gear, popped a lovely pass to Coop who steamed in from 5 inches! 0 – 7, Coop converted.
We had clear domination in the scrum, slowly but surely ripping their scum to pieces, the LO worked well and our rucking was pretty crisp, or at least good and got better, The piano movers inspired by Robin were rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’, the piano players had clear advantages in ability, pace and size. It looked a bit ominous for BHS! On 24 mins, Robin F Ramsey made a searing “Normski-esque” break to feed Hubby in his armchair, to chip forward for Zippy Carson to dot down: 0 – 14, Coop on the money again. Three minutes later, Hubby got out of the armchair and waltzed through a gaping hole to feed Keith D who charged headlong at the BHS line, but, as any good wee(?) brother should, he fed Kyle D to score under the posts; 0 – 21.
It started to rain, and most of the spectators headed for the bar! The diehards remained to see Coop slot a penalty on 35mins: 0 – 24. We closed the half by capitalizing on a blunder in the BHS midfield setting Kyle in again: 0 – 29 at Half Time.
It was the WheelsEdens show early in the second half, scoring twice on 43 mins and 54 mins, the second of special comment; we stopped BHS on our own line on 53 mins, turned them over for Hubby to hoof downfield – Wheels left the BHS cover in his wake, the only question was……would he fly hack, pick up, knock on or fall over??!!! Given the wet freezing day…..he picked up and raced in to score without a BHS player within 30m of him – worthy of YouTube!: 0 – 41. The pack had really got the scent of blood, and everyone had a right good go with ball in hand – Robin F gave us a commentary as he went, the Bull snorted his way around like a 20 year old, Nasher was his quiet efficient self, Corkey pulled the wrong socks up…..I could go on…The ladies were tuned in too….great pace and lines of running, never mind jolting hits in midfield………ticks in Coach McKee’s “box”.
On 66 mins Kyle finished a real demolition job started by the Bull: 0 – 48. We closed the game, so did the ref on 70 mins when Norm jetted in to add to his season tally: 0 – 55. Game Over!!
A great way to finish the year – we did what we set out to do….ruthless and clinical………Happy Days! See you on 9/1/10, for a certain cup match!!!
Man of the Match: Robin F Ramsey
Merry Christmas from a Happy (at last???!!) Management…
