Academy 2nd XV 26 - Rainey 3rd Xv 19
The early exchanges saw both teams with penalty chances, Rainey nailed theirs whilst Academy missed (3-0, 5 mins). P.Moffett did not take long to make amends, scoring the opening try after the forwards had won several rucks (3-5, 9 mins). Rainey replied with a couple of tries of their own, (8-5, 22 mins) & (13-5, 27 mins) before ending the half with another very late penalty (16-5, 44 mins).
Rainey retired two players at the start of the second half, which started much like the first, with Academy missing a kick at goal, whilst Rainey made theirs (19-5, 55-mins).
A yellow card for A.Patrick for an infringement at the ruck helped to even the numbers.
Academy eventually worked out how to make use of the extra numbers creating a try for fullback P.Barbour, with Keith Dobbin taking over the kicking duties (19-12, 62 mins).
Full of confidence, Academy started to run the ball from their own 22, and with the ball carrier making use of the support on hand, ended with M.Geary scoring. P.Moffet returned for the easy kick in front of the posts (19-19, 69 mins).
With the scores level, Academy kept the pressure on, P.Moffett kicked to the corner and was on hand when Rainey failed to make touch. He kicked the ball through, regathered and then offloaded for K.Dobbin to score (and convert) the winning try (19-26, 72 mins).
