Academy 2nd XV back to winning ways with a 13 try romp

On a bright winter afternoon, Academy 2nd Xv entertained Rainey OB 3rd XV in a Magners Junior 3 league match.  Academy needed a win to end a run of 5 successive defeats. 
From the kick off Academy were awarded a scrum in the centre of the park, Academy ran a set piece move which put Full back Braiden in under the posts untouched.   Cooper converted. Academy underway 7-0 up with a minute on the clock.

Academy the pressure up with Rainey finding it difficult to settle into the match. In the 9th minute following a break from a line out in the 22 by No. 8 Dobbin and quick a hands across the backs put centre Andy Eggleton in to touch down by the posts. Cooper again converted.  Acad 14 – 0 Rainey.
Academies were in full flow and completely controlling the game. In the 12th minute Academy spread the ball the ball wide with winger Christie putting in prop Nash on the wide right following a sweeping move from a lineout on the 10 metre line.  Acad 19 – 0 Rainey.
Academy kept the pressure up and in the 20th min left winger Martin made a break outside the Rainey 22 and slipped out of the tackle just short of line to centre Cooper to touch down for a try in the corner.

Academy started to stroll the game and Eggleton outpaced everyone following a breakdown to go over for his 2nd try in the 26th minute. Academy were rampaging and flanker Phil Ross neglected support and went over by the posts. Cooper converted to make it Acad 36 –  0 Rainey.

The match was now well beyond Rainey but academy kept up the pressure and following some good interplay between left wing Martin and No.8 Dobbin, Dobbin got in for a try.
The half ended when Academy again spread the ball wide from their own half and right wing Christie broke several tackles from 30 metres out to score under the posts. Cooper converted.

Half Time score:  Academy 48 – 0 Rainey

The 2nd half opened up and again Academy seized control and Eggleton powered over for his 3rd try in the 1st minute. Cooper converted Acad 55  –  0 Rainey

Rainey rallied and started to take control of the game keeping the ball tight and driving the ball through their forwards close to the breakdown. Following a lineout in the Academy 22 they mauled their way over for a try in the 45th minute. Acad 55  –  5 Rainey.

This bolstered the Rainey team and they were more competitive but unfortunately the last pass went astray when close to scoring on a couple of occasions. Academy weathered the storm and following a break by out half Moffet, No 8 Dobbin took a slip pass to go over for his 2nd try in the 52nd minute.
Acad 60  –  5 Rainey

Rainey again came back but were unable to keep enough pressure on Academy and following a kick ahead, the Academy backs again spread the ball and Eggleton went in for his 4th try of the afternoon. Cooper converted.  Acad 67  –  5 Rainey

Academy  were trying all their moves and in the 70th minute Moffet went blind and forced his way over for a try . Cooper again converted .  Acad 74  –  5 Rainey
Academy were moving the ball from anywhere and from deep the ball came to left wing Martin who outpaced several defenders to score under the posts. Cooper again converted and the referee ended the match

Full time :  Acad 81 –  5 Rainey

A good win to get the 2nd back on the winning road.
