Academy weathered the early pressure from Malone, and took the lead mid way through the first half, from a 5 metre scrum, the ball was fed along the backline and the fullback came into the line to wrong foot the defence (0-7,  18-mins).

Academy came close to extending their lead, but a 30m penalty kick bounced off the crossbar. (0-7, halftime).

Early in the second half, a blindside  break in Malone’s 22 gave J.Acheson a score in the corner (0-12, 44-mins). An infraction from the restart, saw Malone’s 2nd row yellow carded, however this did not detract from their ability to catch and drive a 5m lineout
(5-12, 46 mins).

Malone’s next attack saw a 3 on 2 opportunity spoiled when G.Braiden rushed off his goal line for a timely interception, and then he raced the length of the pitch to score
(5-19, 63 mins).

Malone replied immediately through their left winger, (12-19,  64-mins), and then again in the final minute, with another forward drive to snatch a draw (19-19,  fulltime).
