Club Round Up – Saturday 3rd September

Wins all round this week with the 1st XV grinding out a 22-17 win against Ards and the 2nds kicking their season off with a BP at Donaghadee.

Before the 1st XV game President George Saunders welcomed Ards President Stephen Nutt and his colleagues to the club for lunch. An excellent afternoon of rugby camaraderie and we look forward to the trip to Hamilton Park in January.

Thanks to our sponsors on the day Adrian Brown (Match Ball) and MPS Data (Lunch) for their kind support.

It was a good day all round for MPS with Shaun O’Leary (1st XV) and Adam Beard (2nd XV) winning player of the match in their respective games.

At The Fort, Daniel Logan scored the only Academy try with the other 17 points coming from the boot of Mikey Wilson who finished the day with 100% record off the tee. It was a tough contest on pitch 2 in conditions that can be described as a traditional summers day at Roughfort.

In Donaghadee, the 2nds had a free scoring first half before the hosts narrowed the margin in the second period. A good start for the 2s well lead by Matty Alexander and Tom Davis.

Further afield, Frank Davis, Oliver Smyth and Josh Manson represented Ulster U18s in their final interprovincial clash. In a close match Ulster lost out to series winner Leinster. Well done to all 3 on a fantastic summer.

Despite the conditions Mini Rugby got up and running in the morning and it was great to see lots of new faces at The Castle.

Next up…….

1st XV v Randalstown (A)

2nd XV v Ards (H)

Youth and Mini training continues at the normal times.
